In the beginning, there was only the creator. In it’s boredom, it split itself into light and dark. From the blood spilled from the separation, the heavens were created between the two. Gleeful, the two shaped the heavens between them into the world. However, unused to existing as two, light and dark quickly began to fight amongst itself. It further divided itself into Icons that could walk the world. Each Icon shaping the world as it saw fit. However the Icons would fight amongst themselves, reducing the world to ruin over and over again. Finally, an agreement was reached. The Icons agreed to not fight between themselves. Instead they would use mortal proxies to exert their will.

The Dragons were the first race to be created, followed by the Elves and Celestials. They themselves were given the secrets of creation. The Dragons created Kobolds. The Elves created the Orcs and Gnomes. The Celestials created the Humans, Demons, and Dwarves. The Demons stole the secrets of creation from the Celestials, and offered it to the other races. However it was a lesser form the required copulation. The Icons tried to take back the secrets of creation, but it was too late. The races could now reproduce unchecked, and some still retained the power to shape new life from nothing.

An age is typically a few hundred years. The end of an age is usually marked with a great calamity or social upheaval. We are currently in the 13th Age. The world is probably around 4000 years old.
