Icons

There exists powerful figures who are physical representations of the various fragments of the primary force of creation. They are referred to as Icons or Nobilis. While the specific incarnation of an Icon might die or change, they will always reappear in short order.

The Icons wield great power, but are bound by a mutual pact to not interfere with mortal concerns except for in specific limited ways. This pact prevents the Icons from directly opposing each other which frequently resulted in mass description before the pact was struck. The Icons now mostly act as guides and advisers, using mortal proxies to effect their will.

Races

In later ages, the deep cultural divisions between races have mostly been erased. Different races often live together in harmony and are mostly divided more by ideology than race, although there are still communities that strongly favor one population over others, it's not uncommon to find some of ever race in most communities. Earlier ages were more racially segmented, but even then the subservient races often lived together with their creators and share common cultural touchstones.

Dragons

Dragons were the first mortal kind created by the Icons. As such the are the closest to resembling the divine. They are powerful, intelligent, and nearly ageless, but not completely immortal. Dragons are very diverse since each one was individually crafted, however many descendants and lesser dragons exist, and range in intelligence and power.

Elves

Elves were the second mortal kind to be created. They were created to be the prize of Crea and excel in nearly every aspect. They were created in harmony with the land and are well suited with it. They were charged with being stewards of creation and take this responsibility very seriously, which leads them to be very environmentally friendly, but lagging in industrialization and exploration of their natural resources. While they were the dominate race for many ages, they have since fragmented into a diverse and often opposing factions.

Wild Elves / Forest Elves / Fey Folk

The wild elves hold traditionalist values, living a more primitive existence.

High Elves / Moon Elves / Fair Folk

The high elves pursue magical innovation and artistic perfection, but still tend to be environmentally conscious. However their somewhat reckless pursuit of magical powers have lead to several calamities over the ages which has earned them some distrust.

Dark Elves / Silver Folk

The dark elves distanced themselves from their breathern. Noticing the other races rapid advancement of the other races, the turned exploitation of their environment. This caused a schism which lead to the silver folk leaving their traditional forest homes and seeking desert or underground environments. However they proved skilled at industrialization and quickly built their own civilization.

Orcs

Technically a variant of Elves. The Orcs were created as a laborer and soldier race by the high elves. They eventually earned their freedom. They tend to share a similar sense of reverence of nature like many of their elven breathern, but they instead turn to nomadic lifestyle, striking at the places where civilization encroaches on nature. However many Orcs have proved to be skilled farmers and laborers, integrating naturally into civilization.

Gnomes

Another elven race created by the High Elves. Mostly created as a servant and entertainer race. They too gained their freedom, but never lost their jovial nature.

Angels

The angles were the third mortal kind created. Their purpose were to serve as guardians to creation. They take this responsibility very seriously. However they often live under fairly stick laws and have earned a reputation for being a bit uptight.

Humans

Humans were created by the angels as laborers, worshipers, and foot-soldiers. They were instilled with a strong sense of reverence for their angel masters. Although they to earned freedom, many still worship the angels and hold themselves to the angel's strict codes.

Dwarves / Mountain Folk / Dwemner

Like the Humans, Dwarves were created by the angels to serve as laborers, worshipers, and foot-soliders. But they were adapted to toil under the earth, were evil tends to breed and angels and humans fear to tread. They tend to be extremely hardy. Although now free, they also retain strong religious tendencies to this day, however this reverence tends to be more directed at their ancestors than the Angels.

Daemons / Devils / The Cursed / The Fallen Folk

Daemons are technically a varient of Angels. They were Angels who abandoned their strict rules and roles as protectors, and instead sought out freedom, vice, and forbidden powers. While this lead many to turn to sinister ways or be corrupted by forbidden magics, many just wish to revel in freedom and lead peaceful or even benevolent existences.

Lizard Folk

The Kin

The Kin were not created to be a subservient race, but instead created by the Dragons to rule the swamplands. The Kin tend to have a strong sense pride and be fairly civilized. But they still hold closer to the ways of nature over the laws of man.

Kobolds

Created by the Dragons as a subservient race. They were made to handle the mundane affairs of some of the lazier Dragons including cleaning the lair, disposing of smaller pests, tending to the hoard, and picking the bones out of the dragons teeth. Though technically free, the often still often found in service to dragons or other powerful beings.

Beastmen / Lycanthropes

Technically not their own race. Instead their origins seem to mostly be from certain prolific shapeshifting wizards with peculiar proclivities.

Goblins

A race of huminiods that technically includes those such as orges, ogres, hobgoblins, ettins, and others. They were originally created to destroy the other races so that creation could be remade to the intentions of one of the Icons. However with the passage of time their original purpose has mostly been forgotten and they have even created their own societies and some even live in coexistence. Though they are still frequently found threatening the other races.
