This campaign takes place in an alternate contemporary earth.  This earth's history is similar to our own except that Japan and the United States join forces to become the dominate force in the world.  This occurs after several Japanese corporations merge with several American corporations to create several global mega-corps.  The majority of people speak a Japanese/English hybrid.

Other notable differences are the inclusion of several fictitious countries and historical events.  Also, a number of anime tropes are common (or at least not unheard of) in everyday life.  These include cat girls, androids, vampires, kami, ghosts, hammerspace, noose bleeds, etc.
